“Lord, what do you have to say about all of this?”
I scribbled these words in my journal the other night as I was faced with an overwhelming amount of anxiety & fear about a handful of situations in my life. I wanted answers. I wanted clarity. I wanted peace.
I felt very similarly to the disciples in Mark 4: 35-41 as they cried out to Jesus who was peacefully sleeping on a boat during a raging storm, “DON’T YOU CARE IF WE DROWN?!?!?!” My black felt pen was furiously, nervously writing out “Lord, what do you have to SAY? Are you there?! Don’t you CARE?!”
Just as he approached the disciples on that boat with peace and reassurance, he approached me mid-writing with the same gesture. I wrote down one anxiety & heard, “find me in this.” I wrote down another fear and heard, “find me in this.” The list continued to unfold, & reassurance prodded my mind through the words of “find me in this.”
God does not abandon. God does not leave when the waves get rough. God is the eye of the storm, the calm center.
In their storm, the disciples still managed to find Christ - even when blinded by anxieties, fear, and doubt. The disciples ran to Jesus in their fear, & he calmed their storm.
Let us find God in our storms. Let us direct our feet to the calm center.
